Welcome to Mental Health Musings.

I have created this Blog in order to write about my mental health journey…in a way that can help me on the path to healing as well as to hopefully help others.

This is the first time talking about my mental health to the world other than with close family and friends.

I know that there is still a stigma attached to mental health and how uncomfortable it can be for people to open up and talk about their struggles. This is due to the lack of knowledge (lets call it what is…ignorance) among the public being extremely poor and the widespread negative beliefs and attitudes (prejudice) and discrimination surrounding mental health.

I have been inspired by Time to Change – England’s largest mental health anti-stigma campaign which was launched in 2009. It is led by the mental health charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness and is funded by the Department of Health, the Big Lottery Fund and Comic Relief.

So…let’s break the stigma once and for all – through continued awareness and education.

Everyone has mental health, but not everyone has a mental illness. It is very real, it can happen to any of us, but the important thing to know, to remember and to understand is…that you are not alone.

Here is the link to my very first Blog post – The First Step is the Biggest Step. Please feel free to comment below the post, let me know what you think? And please be honest with your feedback. I may not be consistent in my Blog postings, but it’s got me this far…..so stay tuned for more.

Thank you for taking the time to visit.

“We need, ultimately, to be able to view
mental health with the same clear-headedness
we show when talking about physical health.”

  1. Well done Pat, amazing blog.
You’re a great guy always making everyone laugh and many times made my day with one joke. Such people are treasures and at times are the last ones we’d suspect to need support. I am glad you’ve shared all that with us.
